http://www.waconiapatriot.com/articles/2006/09/20/waconia_patriot/news/news03.txt

"Had it not been for a little common sense in marketing, Waconia's annual Nickle Dickle Day could have been known as “Dime Day” or worse yet, “Two Bits Time.”

When organizers of the event first gathered nearly a half century ago, they were searching for ways to create a catch-phrase, something that would denote a memorable fall celebration in Waconia.

Even though some of those early organizers had talked about offering special 10 cents sales or deals for two bits, it was the nickel that won out. All that remained at that point was to coin a name, Nickle Dickle (Dickle apparently was substituted for dicker, something shoppers would to get a better deal, because it rhymed with nickel)."

Could someone explain the history behind Nickle Dickle Days? We recently moved to Waconia, and our knowledge of the city's history is very limited.
Thanks! :-)
