Ground Round Coming to Waconia

Yesterday the word was Champps, today it’s Ground Round.

I don’t know if they switched restaurants, or if we are getting both, but I have been able to confirm that the city has approved the sight plans for Ground Round over by the AmericInn.

No idea when construction would start or when it’d open.

Champps Sports Bar Coming To Waconia.

I heard a rumor, from a very credible source, that Champps is looking to build a sports bar in Waconia.

The location would be over by the AmericInn.

I haven’t been able to confirm this, but my source is pretty reliable.

Hopefully it’s true!

Whole Hog Heaven BBQ – It Was Good While It Lasted

One of the best Waconia restaurants couldn’t make it though the recession. Whole Hog Heaven BBQ closed it doors in October and it’s a major loss to the community.

It’s really sad that we have three Subways but one BBQ place just couldn’t make it. It was a great restaurant and will be missed.

Fatboys All You Can Eat Spaghetti

Ray Azteca Mexican Restaurant

On May 4, 2009 a new restaurant opened up here in Waconia- Ray Azteca! Ray Azteca is located in the strip mall next to Mackenthun’s grocery store! We were first introduced to Ray Azteca through their restaurant in Chanhassen- and it quickly became one of our favorite go-to places!! Needless to say we were very excited to see them open even closer to home! Since their Waconia opening we have eaten there a few times and we highly recommend them!

Their food is very good, the menu is expansive, prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is a lot of fun! Check them out and I bet they become one of your “go-to” places too!

Waconia To Get A Third Subway Restaurant

Need it or not, Waconia is getting yet another Subway restaurant. The third one is located on the east side of town across from Kwik Trip and opening soon.

So why do we need another Subway? Good question. I sure don’t know the answer.

It will probably be the nicest one though as you won’t have to deal with highway 5 or go into a gas station. It will have a nicer parking lot and have a liquor store next to it so I guess that’s a good thing.

In my opinion, Waconia needs variety. How about a Boston Market or Bruegger’s Bagels? Or is that to much to ask?

Quiznos Out, FatBoys In.

Even though we’ve noticed issues with Quiznos Sub shop, we were still surprised when FatBoys showed up.

FatBoys is a new sub shop that specializes in hot and cold subs, soup, pizza, gyros, and hot dogs. Think of them as a mix of Quiznos and Subway with a few added items.

According to their website, they are bringing the taste of Chicago to Minnesota and have been making sandwiches for over 40 years.

The sandwiches are pretty big too at 8 inches long and full of food. They are jam packed with different types of meet and veggies and should fill up most anyone.

FatBoys also delivers for an additional $2 and caters if you’d like the food to come to you.

FatBoys is located in Quiznos old location which is in the strip mall next to Mackenthuns.

Welcome Starbucks and Pizza Hut

October 12th was opening day for Target in Waconia and, as exciting as that was, the treat of seeing a Starbucks and Pizza Hut Express inside was even better!

I guess I hadn’t really thought to much about the mini stores that come with Target. Sure Target has groceries, a pharmacy, clinic, photo department and a little food court, but they usually come with a few big named brands too built in.

To me, I can’t see this harming local business to much. Pizza Hut doesn’t offer delivery or make pizzas that feed a family. It’s all individual sized pizzas and even a few breakfast items.

Starbucks doesn’t have a drive through and probably doesn’t even open until 8am. However, it does offer that overpriced coffee for those that crave it.

I’m just really excited for the Pizza Hut Express. Mmmmmm

3 Waconia Business’ Close

It seem that more than a few business in Waconia are having trouble staying open. Beef O Bradys, Quiznos and the Marathon gas station have all closed!

I first noticed this as we went to Beef O Bradys for dinner. On the door was a sign that said closed. It also said something about coming back with new ownership but not sure if it’ll be the same or a new restaurant.

Quiznos seemed quiet too and we noticed a sign on their door that said closed. For how long though is unknown. Maybe it’s not permanent?

Then today I noticed that the Marathon/Oasis Market gas station was also closed!

That’s three bigger business in a short period of time. Lets hope it’s not a trend.

Whole Hog Heaven BBQ

When you stop to think about it, Waconia actually does have quite a few places to eat. Now, you can add another to the list; Whole Hog Heaven BBQ.

The ribs and more restaurant opened across from Kwik Trip a few months ago. It has limited indoor seating but makes everything available for carryout too.

We finally tried it out the other night and the service was fast, food was excellent and restaurant was quite nice.
