Waconia Super America scammed by brazen fraudsters.

superamerica560The previous owner of the SA, a 51-year-old man named Husein Sarameh, agreed to sell his business to as-of-yet-unidentified person or group of people last month for $945,000. The buyers wrote a $203,000 check to cover the down payment and Sarameh, following his lawyer’s advice, turned over the reins to the store before it had even cleared. And that’s where things got weird.

Last weekend, the new owners held quite the two-day sale. As KSTP reports, they sold gas for $3.85 a gallon — a ridiculous (and illegally low) price compared to the $4.29 average cost of a gallon elsewhere in Waconia — and sold nearly everything in the store for half-price. Fifty-thousand dollars later they took off and they still haven’t been arrested.

After the down payment check bounced and Sarameh realized he’d been scammed, he reassumed ownership of the SA. More gas discounts are planned for this weekend, though this time the more modest discounts will be legitimate.

Needless to say, the last couple weekends have been good ones for regular customers at the Waconia SA.

Goodbye Pizza Ranch. Hello Unhinged Pizza.

It’s a sad day for Waconia. Our beloved Pizza Ranch is no longer. Well sort of.

The Pizza Ranches in Waconia, Norwood Young America, Glencoe, Delano have all changed to Unhinged Pizza.

Unhinged Pizza

Unhinged Pizza has the same owners, managers, and employees so not a lot is changing. They have a new name and have added some new food like ice cream!

256 Twisted Flavors

It seems that the owners broke away from the Pizza Ranch franchise and went out on their own. Or that’s what I understand.

From what I’ve heard, the food is just as good as it was and all your favorites are still there.

Locations are all still the same too, it’s just got a different name. Change is scary, but this shouldn’t be to much of a change for us Pizza Ranch lovers.

This weekend is the Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener!

Lake Waconia has the pleasure of hosing the 2012 Governor’s Fishing Opener on May 12th!

A pair of accomplished anglers from Waconia will host Governor Mark Dayton and Lt. Governor Yvonne Prettner Solon on Lake Waconia. Travis Frank will fish with Governor Dayton, and Matt Peters will fish with Lt. Governor Prettner Solon.

This is only the second time in 64 years that a lake in the meto region has been selected for the Governor’s Fishing Opener and we can’t wait for everyone to hit town.

Even though not everyone will get to fish with the Governor, everyone is free to come to town and fish on Lake Waconia.

If you live in Waconia, get ready for a media frenzy and tons of anglers to pack the town.

Never been to Waconia before? Just take 494 to Eden Prairie, hop on highway 5 West and you’ll hit Waconia in about 20 minutes. Google Map

New City Park Open

Waconia’s city park has been closed for most of October while it underwent some renovations. But now it’s back open and better than ever.

Waconia City Park

The updated park includes swings, play equipment made especially for toddlers, a bridge over the sidewalk and more.

Take the kids and enjoy some of this nice fall weather before the snow files!

Blockbuster Express Comes To Town

RedBox isn’t the only way to rent movies for $1 a night anymore. Blockbuster Express is the same idea, only in a blue box.

The Blockbuster Express machine is located at Kwik Trip and, from what I know, works the same way as RedBox does with no memberships and only a dollar a night rentals.
