Target in Waconia is now advertising in the store that they will be getting fresh foods such as fruits and vegetables. I don’t think the store is expanding the building but they are expanding the grocery section.
One of the best Waconia restaurants couldn’t make it though the recession. Whole Hog Heaven BBQ closed it doors in October and it’s a major loss to the community.
It’s really sad that we have three Subways but one BBQ place just couldn’t make it. It was a great restaurant and will be missed.
Meanwhile, you can contact them via their website as they can still cater special events and you can get their BBQ sauce www.wholehogheaven.com.

Last night a vehicle somehow crashed into the Holiday gas station in Waconia. They did quite a bit of damage to some of the windows, the building walls and some products in the store. No word on any injuries though.
The good news is Holiday is open for business with only a small portion of the store roped off for safety reasons.
My guess is someone put the car into drive instead of reverse and hit the gas. Still it’s quite a bit of damage for going as slowly as they should have been. Maybe someone lost their breaks when pulling in?
Update: The StarTribune is reporting that the person killed was Ryan Samuelson, 17, a senior at Waconia High School. Also, a video was added below.

A propane take exploded June 10th at the Waconia Farm Store. Kare11 & KSTP are reporting that one person has been killed.
KSTP.com reports:
The incident happened at the Waconia Farm Supply, located at 801 Highway 284, shortly before 5 p.m. Several fire departments responded to help battle the fire that broke out afterwards.
Authorities say the victim was filling propane tanks when they exploded. The name of the victim has not been released.
According to OSHA records, Waconia Farm Supply was cited in February for two violations involving compressed gas.
Here are a few photos taken after the explosion.

Here is a video of the scene taken from a cell phone:

On May 4, 2009 a new restaurant opened up here in Waconia- Ray Azteca! Ray Azteca is located in the strip mall next to Mackenthun’s grocery store! We were first introduced to Ray Azteca through their restaurant in Chanhassen- and it quickly became one of our favorite go-to places!! Needless to say we were very excited to see them open even closer to home! Since their Waconia opening we have eaten there a few times and we highly recommend them!
Their food is very good, the menu is expansive, prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is a lot of fun! Check them out and I bet they become one of your “go-to” places too!
Need it or not, Waconia is getting yet another Subway restaurant. The third one is located on the east side of town across from Kwik Trip and opening soon.
So why do we need another Subway? Good question. I sure don’t know the answer.
It will probably be the nicest one though as you won’t have to deal with highway 5 or go into a gas station. It will have a nicer parking lot and have a liquor store next to it so I guess that’s a good thing.
In my opinion, Waconia needs variety. How about a Boston Market or Bruegger’s Bagels? Or is that to much to ask?
