When you stop to think about it, Waconia actually does have quite a few places to eat.  Now, you can add another to the list; Whole Hog Heaven BBQ.

The ribs and more restaurant opened across from Kwik Trip a few months ago.  It has limited indoor seating but makes everything available for carryout too.

We finally tried it out the other night and the service was fast, food was excellent and restaurant was quite nice.

Saturday April 26th, Walk On Waconia will be raising money for the local food shelf.  You can get out and walk around the lake; or just half way around.  There is a 1 mile road race, a 5.5 mile walk and a 10 mile walk.  The walk starts at 7:30am and the run starts at 8:30.

If you want to run it costs $5 if you want to walk it costs $15 and everyone gets a free T-Shirt. 

You can register ahead of time or at 7am the day of the the event.

Saturday April 19th is Earth day and at 9am in Brook Peterson Park (1200 Oak Avenue) the city will be getting the parks ready for spring.

There will be a tree planting, breakfast goodies and a photo with the Tree City USA banner.

Then at about 9:30, each Adopt a Park group, and volunteers, will head off to their city parks to perform some spring cleaning.  That way, when it gets really nice out,  the kids will have a nice safe place to play.

Please bring your own work gloves, rakes and friends.  No need for garbage bags, those will be waiting for you.

Ohh, now I think this is where we sing “Plant a tree, trees for America.  Plant a tree today for all the world to see.”

On Saturday April 19th from 12-3pm the new Public Works facility will have an open house.  You’ll get to see the new facility, meet the people and understand what they really do.  There will even be snow plows, dump trucks and other big kid equipment for big and small kids to check out.

Food and beverages will be provided too.  So why not come and check it out?

The Waconia fire department is cooking breakfast again!  Pancakes, sausage and french toast means there is something for every one.  I’m getting hungry just thinking about it.

The breakfast is this Sunday, April 6th and goes from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Firedepartment.  Tickets are only $6 and you can get them at the door.  Ohh and the food is soo good.

Have you driven on Highway 284 between Waconia and Cologne lately?  That road is seriously messed up at the Waconia end.  It’s like a bad rollercoaster ride where you think you’re going to cause physical damage to your car, or your passengers, at any moment.

Some may say that it’s just the frost in the road and as soon as it thaws, it’ll all go back in place.  But I highly doubt that.  Some roads maybe, but not a road this bad.

And wasn’t it just re-paved last year?  Did something go wrong?

I now avoid the road at all costs.  I’m intrigued to go farther down the road and see if it evens out a bit, but when I bottom out at 30 mph, it’s just not cool.

They have a large, 7200 square foot building, building off of highway 5 behind Mr. Movies and next to Holiday. And they are more than willing to give free tours during business hours.

I haven’t been there myself, but will be keeping it in mind as we have a cat that needs medication twice a day. If we can’t find family to take care of him when we go on vacation, it’ll be nice to know we have a second choice.

It seems that I haven’t been paying enough attention to this site and numerous problems have shown up. So today, I’m fixing them.

First off, there was a serious problem in one specific post. It was so bad, that Google put an alert on search results that called us an unsafe site! OMG! I was freaking out and have spent hours researching and fixing the issue. I am confident that it’s been fixed and will get the official OK from Google hopefully soon.

Update: We’ve been cleared by Google and are no longer marked as a bad site.

Second, a bunch of weird characters were showing up in posts. Not your normal US letters, odd A’s with squiggles over the top and things like that. I have cleaned up a large number of those. If you see any, let me know what post and I’ll clean them up too.

Third, the form to contact our site was gone. Yep, gone. Don’t know how, don’t know when or what happened but it was gone. It’s since been brought back and is working again.

I really don’t know what caused all these issues, but they may all be related. Then again, maybe not. However, I do feel confident that all issues have been fixed and I hope they never come back.
