KSTP.com reports:

The incident happened at the Waconia Farm Supply, located at 801 Highway 284, shortly before 5 p.m. Several fire departments responded to help battle the fire that broke out afterwards.

Ray Azteca Mexican Restaurant

On May 4, 2009 a new restaurant opened up here in Waconia- Ray Azteca! Ray Azteca is located in the strip mall next to Mackenthun’s grocery store! We were first introduced to Ray Azteca through their restaurant in Chanhassen- and it quickly became one of our favorite go-to places!! Needless to say we were very excited to see them open even closer to home! Since their Waconia opening we have eaten there a few times and we highly recommend them!

Their food is very good, the menu is expansive, prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is a lot of fun! Check them out and I bet they become one of your “go-to” places too!

Mitch’s Asphalt Service – Empty Promises, Shotty Work

It’s that time of year again when home owners thing about doing work around their house. Well if you are looking for someone to replace you driveway, I’d highly suggest not going with Mitch’s Asphalt Service. They’ll re-do your driveway, but if there are any issues, they’ll make false promises, not follow through on warranties, and not fix anything.

We hired Mitch’s Asphalt Service  two summers ago. Mitch seemed a little odd, but we were new home owners and trusted him. He gave us a good deal and did replace our driveway. However, the next spring we got a soft spot that started sinking in.

Driveway IssueImmediately I called up Mitch and he said he’d be out as soon as it was warm enough to fix. But he never showed. I then called back many times throughout the summer and into the fall. Each time Mitch said one of three things.

  1. He’d be out in the next week or so to fix it.
  2. It was the cities fault and not his issue.
  3. Pretended he didn’t know me and had never heard of the issue before.

Most of time time it was all three of these.  After every phone call he promised he’d be out. I forced Mitch to give me a day and time and he’d never show.  After more than seven calls, Mitch’s Asphalt Service never once called me back and has never fixed the driveway.

To this day, we continue to have a bad spot in our driveway that will never be fixed.  To make it even worse, I can’t file a complaint as Mitch’s Asphalt Service never gave me anything with their address. It’s almost as if Mitch knew he’d do a half assed job and didn’t want us tracking him down.

So if you are thinking of going with Mitch’s Asphalt Service don’t.  The shotty work, empty promises, and stress are just not worth it.

Waconia To Get A Third Subway Restaurant

Subway Logo

Need it or not, Waconia is getting yet another Subway restaurant. The third one is located on the east side of town across from Kwik Trip and opening soon.

So why do we need another Subway? Good question. I sure don’t know the answer.

It will probably be the nicest one though as you won’t have to deal with highway 5 or go into a gas station. It will have a nicer parking lot and have a liquor store next to it so I guess that’s a good thing.

In my opinion, Waconia needs variety. How about a Boston Market or Bruegger’s Bagels?  Or is that to much to ask?

Quiznos Out, FatBoys In.

Even though we’ve noticed issues with Quiznos Sub shop, we were still surprised when FatBoys showed up.

FatBoys is a new sub shop that specializes in hot and cold subs, soup, pizza, gyros, and hot dogs. Think of them as a mix of Quiznos and Subway with a few added items.

According to their website, they are bringing the taste of Chicago to Minnesota and have been making sandwiches for over 40 years.

The sandwiches are pretty big too at 8 inches long and full of food. They are jam packed with different types of meet and veggies and should fill up most anyone.

FatBoys also delivers for an additional $2 and caters if you’d like the food to come to you.

FatBoys is located in Quiznos old location which is in the strip mall next to Mackenthuns.

CDP Sports Moves a Few Blocks

If you try to visit CDP sports, and visit the old location, don’t worry, they didn’t go out of business.  Rather they moved a few blocks down to main street.  They are now located in the former John’s Appliance building.

To encourage sports fans to come in and see the new building, they are offering 35% off storewide in February.  That’s a huge discount and I’m sure there is some sports gear that you could pick up with prices like that.
